Baramulla, Jun 17 (KNO): The Department of Media Studies at Government Degree College (GDC) Baramulla on Tuesday organized its annual Media Festival 2025, with student projects taking a centre stage.
The festival brought together student creators, educators and guests to celebrate a day of storytelling, creative expression and media literacy.
The day-long event featured competitions in feature writing, photography, photo essays and filmmaking, with participants from multiple colleges and universities across Jammu and Kashmir, organisers told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO).
Speaking on the occasion, the Principal stressed the importance of media education in a rapidly evolving digital landscape. “In the age of digital transformation, media education is not just about producing content but shaping thought, sparking dialogue and building responsible storytellers,” he said.
A jury of experts also evaluated entries across four main competition categories. In the feature writing competition, Aafreen Bashir and Hafsa Hamid of GDC Baramulla secured first place, while Ishfaq Rashid Bhat of Central University of Kashmir won the top prize in photography.
Similarly, Sheikh Anam of GDC Baramulla took first place in the photo essay category, while the film competition was won by Hanan Javed (IGNOU) for his short film.
Participating students expressed gratitude for the platform to showcase their work and engage with peers.
